Do you use Twitter as one of your online marketing strategies to reach potential MLM distributors or customers?
Unfortunately many internet marketers forget a key fact – using Twitter, like many other viral marketing, or social network marketing strategies, is only as good as its human input.
There are some essential issues to consider when using Twitter for your e-marketing:
1. Marketing is based on a mathematically disappointing truism – only a small percentage of who you contact will be interested in what you say, and a small percentage of those will become your customers. So you need a lot of Twitter followers. Remember that your Tweets only go to your “followers”, that is, those who have chosen to follow you; and not to those who you follow (“following” or “friends”).
There are many methods and tools to add Twitter followings to your Twitter account, usually based on the logic that those you follow will in almost all cases choose to follow you back, so will become your followers. Click the link if you’d like to know more about tools to automate Twitter.
2. For anyone to be remotely interested in what you say, your followers must be relevant. Your followers must consist of the right market for your products and services. Whether you add Twitter followings manually or automate them, you need to ensure they are quality leads.
You can add Twitter followings in two main ways – searching Twitter on certain relevant keywords and following the resultant Twitter accounts, or following the followers of your competitors or other relevant Twitter accounts. You also need to regularly ‘prune’ your followings list, by un-following those accounts which are not relevant to you.
3. Your Tweets need to stand out from the crowd. Your Tweets must be relevant, unique and offer something specific that your market wants or needs (and worded around solving a particular problem they have).
From my experience it’s more likely you will get clicks on Tweets offering something very specific and simple (eg. “how to add Twitter followers in 3 easy steps”, rather than general (eg. “internet marketing strategy”). I think Twitterers do respond better to honest and simple marketing communications rather than hard-hitting and hard-sell ones, but maybe that’s just my opinion?
4. Remember the medium. Twitter is a medium of short messages. Don’t clutter your Tweets unnecessarily – keep them simple and short, and use shortened URLs. In the fast-paced Twitter world, your Tweet will only be visible for a few seconds or minutes, before it gets lost in the quagmire of more recent Tweets.
Think of your Tweets like signs on a motor highway or freeway - the fast-travelling motorists must be able to read and get the message before they’ve gone past. And you don’t have the benefit of using colour or extra large fonts – so your content is king.
Many of these points might be obvious to some of you, but how many of you seriously consider and take these into account when using Twitter for your online marketing efforts? It might be worth re-evaluating your Twitter strategy!
